An ocassional wildflower of sandhills, flatwoods and hammocks from Pasco County north, except for the east coast counties. Ranges throughout the southeastern United States west into Texas and Arkansas and north into Indiana to New York and Connecticut.
A perennial with erect, pubescent stems up to 1m (3 ft.) tall. Leaves may be sessile or with very short petioles (<5mm) and are usually opposite, with the upper leaves occasionally alternate. Leaves are narrowly elliptic to oblanceolate having toothed margins, typically 3 to 4 times as long as wide, with the largest leaves up to 3cm (1-3/16 in.) wide. The inflorescance consists of small white tubular florets in corymbiform arrays.
