A common herb of wet flatwoods, cypress domes, marshes and other wet disturbed sites in most of Florida north of Lake Okeechobee. Also found in Miami-Dade County. The range extends throughout the southeast states west into Texas and Oklahoma and north into Kentucky and Virginia.
Very similar to dogfennel, yankeeweed has divisions in the upper stem leaves that are more than 1mm wide. Growing from 0.5-2m (20 to 80 in.) tall with branching inflorescences of small white flower heads lacking ray florets and each head containing five small disk florets, sometimes with purple throats.
