Florida native
A frequent plant of coastal hammocks and salt marshes in most coastal counties, rarely inland. The range includes all southeastern states from Texas into North Carolina.
Gulf coast swallowwort os a perennial vine with glabrous, usually twining stems and mostly opposite leaves. The leaves, which are usually present on this species, lack any obvious petioles, instead the narrow, linear leaves gradually narrow towards the base where they join the stem with the leaf base and stem being about the same width. The small flowers are in stalked clusters arising from the leaf axils with both the calyces and the greenish-white corollas five-lobed.
The butterfly photographed on this swallowwort is the great southern white.
Pattalias palustre is a member of the Apocynaceae - Dogbane family.
