A frequent wildflower of open coastal areas, rare inland, from St. Johns & Levy Counties south through the central and south peninsula, plus Taylor, Jefferson, Wakulla and Jackson Counties. The range includes the West Indies, southern Mexico and Central America.
The inflorescence is corymbose with each head containing five to eight, seldom nine, flowers, each with only one ray floret. Leaves are opposite, linear, sessile and with one prominent vein. The plant can be somewhat woody at the base, growing up to 1 m (~ 3 ft.) tall with branched, glabrous and often reddish stems.
Flaveria linearis is a member of the Asteraceae - Aster family.
