A frequent plant of wet flatwoods, wet prairies and pond margins throughout much of Florida. The range extends through the southeastern coastal plain from Alabama into North Carolina.
An annual herb that may grow to 1m (40 in.) tall. The alternate linear leaves are up to 6cm (2-1/3 in.) long and are arranged spirally around the stem. Elongated spikes of small globular-shaped flowers terminate the stems.
