A frequent terrestrial orchid of moist hammocks, swamps and ravine forests throughout much of Florida. The range extends through the southeastern coastal states from Texas into Virginia, plus Tennessee.
The small, white, green-veined flowers grow in a raceme atop a stem with few small clasping leaves, reduced upward. There are three to eight dark green elliptic basal leaves growing in a rosette. The plants are typically 8 - 60 cm (3 - 24 in. ) tall.
Ponthieva racemosa is a member of the Orchidaceae - Orchid family.
