A frequent shrub of scrub habitats in nearly all of Florida. The range extends into the southeast coastal states from Louisiana to South Carolina.
Florida rosemary is an evergreen shrub with a rounded growth form and many erect branches mostly arising from near the base. The opposite leaves usually appear whorled and are needle-like, dark green, revolute, 8-12mm (1/3 to 1/2 in.) long and about 1mm (<1/16 in.) wide. The stalkless flowers in the leaf axils are small, brownish to yellowish. Male and female flowers appear of separate plants. The fruit is a small, greenish-yellow round drupe.
The genus Ceratiola is sometimes placed in the Empetraceae (crowberry) family instead of the heath family.
Ceratiola ericoides is a member of the Ericaceae - Heath family.
