This member of the dogbane family is a twining, herbaceous, perennial vine with opposite, oblong to linear dark green leaves. The five-lobed flowers are about 1cm wide, fragrant, hairy and grow in globular clusters. White twinevine grows in the moist soils of hammocks, coastal strand, swamps and mangroves of central and south Florida, Texas and the Virgin Islands. F. clausum is the only species of this genus in Florida. The genus name was previously considered Sarcostema but Funastrum is more recently widely accepted.
