This subspecies of mason wasp is restricted to Florida. The subspecies boscii is found from north Florida into North Carolina. Other subspecies of Euodynerus boscii range from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas to Maryland.
These small wasps are 1cm (4/10 in.) or less and can often be seen feeding on palmetto flowers. They prey on the caterpillars of various families of snout moths. Nesting is done in borings of wood with partitions and plugs made of firmly clumped sand.
Another small red and black wasp found in Florida is the red-marked Pachodynerous, which does not have a red spot behind the eye.
Euodynerus boscii is a member of the Vespidae - Yellowjackets, Hornets and some Wasps family.
