Found in swamps and hammocks of south Florida, this epiphytic's range includes Puerto Rico and other islands of the West Indies, Mexico, Central America and northern South America.
The small self-pollinating flowers that appear mostly October through May are easily overlooked. Usually E. rigidum grows as a few stems, but it does sometimes form large clumps.

Epidendrum rigidum is a member of the Orchidaceae - Orchid family.
