This plant has occasionally escaped from cultivation in the southern portions of the Florida peninsula. Native to Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America except Argentina. Also found in India, southeast Asia and Indonesia.
Unlike similar-looking members of the Arum family, Dieffenbachia seguine does not grow from a tuber or vine. Instead it is a cane, prompting the common name dumb cane. The large green leaves are sometimes variegated with white. Usually at least 1m (~3 ft.( tall, mature plants may reach 3m (~10 ft.).
Flowers are made up of a green leaf-like spathe surrounding an off-white spadix.
Dieffenbachia seguine is a member of the Araceae - Arum family.
