A rare wildflower of moist open hammocks and floodplains in the Florida panhandle from Walton to Leon Counties, plus Levy County. Ranges widely through much of the United States and into southern Canada.
These perennial wildflowers often form colonies and may grow up to 2.4m (8 ft.) tall with glabrous or pubescent stems with ribs or angles. The leaves are alternate, sessile or with very short petioles and are toothed with lower leaves deeply dissected into lobes. The long-stalked flowers are showy with yellow rays and greenish-yellow disks. The seeds are four-angled achenes.
