Florida native
A frequent herb of rocky floodplain forests and moist to dry hammocks from the central peninsula northward. The range extends throughout the eastern United States, west into Texas to South Dakota plus Wyoming. Also found in Ontario and Quebec.
Canadian blacksnakeroot may be perennial or biennial, growing up to 76cm (2-1/2 ft.) tall with branching stems. The petiolate leaves are dissected nearly to the base into three or more lobes with toothed margins. The tiny flowers have 5 white to greenish petals, longer sepals than the petals, and appear in small round heads. The bur-like fruits are pedicellate and each splits into two seeds.
