Native to Hong Kong, this orchid tree is often used in landscaping.
Bauhinia xblakeana is a commonly cultivated hybrid of B. purpurea and B. variegata. The leaves are two lobed, resembling the shape of butterfly wings or a camel's foot. The large flowers have five lanceolate to obovate purple petals. There may be three or five stamens and two to five staminodes (sterile stamens).
