In Florida a rare wildflower of floodplain forests in Volusia, Jackson and Liberty Counties. The range extends thoughout eastern North America west to the Rocky Mountains.
Impatiens capensis is an annual that grows from 0.9-1.5m (3 to 5 ft.) tall, often in large colonies. The smooth stems are somewhat translucent and often succulent. The ovate to elliptic leaves are alternate with crenate to serrate toothed margins and 2.5-10cm (1 to 4 in.) long. The orange-yellow splotchy-colored flowers are horn-shaped, about 2.5cm (1 in.) long and have a curved spur at the end. The flower is attached by a long drooping slender pedicel.
Impatiens capensis is a member of the Balsaminaceae - Touch-me-not family.
