An occasional perennial of sandhills and hammocks in the Florida panhandle. THe range extends throughout the southeastern United States, west into Texas and Oklahoma, northwest into Missouri and Illinois, northeast into Pennsylvania, plus New Hampshire.
These flowering spurges grow 30-65cm (12 to 25-1/2 in.) tall typically with glabrous un-branched stems. The alternate leaves are entire with rounded to cunate bases and a rounded apex. The very short petioles are usually 1-2mm (~1/16 in.) long sometimes varying from 0mm to 10mm(up to about 3/8 in.). Leaves are 6-18mm (1/4 to 3/4 in.) wide and 40-68mm (1-1/2 to 2-5/8 in.) long. Tiny flowers appear in a multi-branched terminal cyme with more than two main axes. A ring of green kidney-shaped to elliptic glands with white petal-like appendages surround the flower.
