A rare fern of limestone outcrops and sinks in hammocks of Volusia County and the southeast counties of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade. Also found on the Yucatan Peninsula, Bermuda and the Caribbean.
A small tufted fern having many unbranched fronds with pinnate blades. The fertile fronds are erect, 9-25cm (3-1/2 to 10 in.) tall with widely spaced pinnae. Sterile fronds are spreading to prostrate, 3-12cm (1-3/16 to 4-3/4 in.) long and have pinnae that are closer together. Typically not more than 12 pairs of pinnae, each only slightly longer than wide with only a few coarse teeth. There are two to five elongated sori arranged along the veins.
