An occasional plant of bogs, cypress swamps and ditch banks from Jefferson County west through the panhandle, plus Baker and Nassau Counties. The range extends throughout the southeastern states west into Texas and Arkansas and north into Tennessee and Virginia.
One of the tallest Xyris species, growing to 60-90cm (2-3 ft.) tall. Leaves may be ascending or in narrow fans with flattened blades, with the appearance of iris leaves giving this plant its common name. The fruiting spike is usually more than 1.5cm (~5/8 in.) long.
Xyris laxifolia is a member of the Xyridaceae - Yellow-eyed Grass family.
