Florida native
A common plant of marshes and other wet places in most of Florida. The range extends through the southeastern coastal states from North Carolina to Texas. Also found mostly in elevations of less than 300m (~1000 ft.) in Mexico, Central and South America.
Mexican primrose-willow has branching square stems, sometimes slightly ridged, growing up to 2.5m (~8 ft.) tall. The leaves are alternate, sessile or with petioles of less than 1cm (4/10 in.), blades linear to narrowly ovate to lanceolate. Stipules are triangular-shaped. Flowers have four yellow petals that are notched at the tip. The 8 stamens are yellowish-white in two unequal length series. The fruit is a ribbed cylindrical capsule up to 5cm (~2 in.) long.
