Calopteron discrepans (Newman)

This distinctly marked beetle can be found throughout Florida. The range includes the eastern United States west into Texas and the Mississippi River states. Also found in Central America, eastern Mexico, Columbia and scattered in other parts of South America.
The elytra (wing covers) may be orange, yellow or reddish with black markings. In this species the black band in the middle of the elytra is typically the same width all the way across. The black markings that appear up the center (when wings are folded) becomes wider towards the base.
The elytra are often raised in a defensive display when threatened.
