Furrow Bee
Ligated Furrow Bee
Poey's Furrow Bee
Synonym(s): Halictus ligatus or Halictus poeyi
Florida native
This furrow bee is likely Halictus ligatus or Halictus poeyi, which are the two members of the subgenus Odontalictus. Definitive species identification apparently requires DNA analysis. The bee shown here looks more like Halictus ligatus, the ligated furrow bee, however some experts consider most Florida specimens Halictus poeyi, Poey's furrow bee.
Halictus subgenus Odontalictus is a member of the Halictidae - Sweat Bees family.
