This rare spiderlily is known only from floodplain forests in Liberty County, Florida.
Gholson's spiderlily grows to about 60cm (~2 ft.) tall with narrow straplike leaves and has larger staminal cups and bracts than the Florida panhandle spiderlily (Hymenocallis choctawensis), one of the other species found in this area.


Hymenocallis gholsonii is a member of the Amaryllidaceae - Amaryllis family.
