The wedgeling is a small dark moth of the central and north peninsula and the panhandle, probably absent from the southern peninsula. The range extends through most of the United States and into parts of Canada, except the Rocky Mountain and northwestern plains states and provinces. Also in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America as far south as Guatamala.
Wingspan is 2-2.6cm (~3/4 to 1 in.). The coloring of the sexes differ, but both have a dark spot near the midpoint of the costa and two angled lines (pm & st) across the forewings. The males are lighter, this difference is more pronounced in the hindwings which are grayish brown. Male forewings are reddish brown to grayish. Female forewings are shiny and a dark brownish-maroon to blackish making the wing markings very faint.
The larval hosts are woodsorrels - plants of the genus Oxalis.
Galgula partita is a member of the Noctuidae - Owlet Moths family.
