Florida native
A frequent fern of dry hammocks, flatwoods, pine rocklands and scrub in the central and southern peninsula of Florida. The range includes the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and Columbia.
Bracken ferns in Florida may reach up to 1m (~3 ft.) tall with pinnate-pinnatifid leaves. The sori are linear in outline and are continuous along the margins of the ultimate segments. The pinnules (ultimate pinnatifed segments) are narrow and oriented nearly 90 degrees from the midveins.
Pteridium aquilinum is a member of the Dennstaedtiaceae - Bracken Fern family.
