This species of spider wasp may be found mostly in sandy areas throughout much of the United States.
Members of the Poecilopompilus genus mimic paper wasps of the genus
Adults feed on the nectar of various flowers. Females prey on orbweavers in the family Araneidae, which they paralyze then drag to a burrow in the earth to be buried with an egg.
