Florida native
A frequent herb of beaches, dunes and salt marshes along much of the Florida coast. The range includes all of the coastal states from Texas to New Hampshire, plus Pennsylvania.
An annual with grayish-green branching stems to 60cm (~ 2 ft.) tall. Leaves are entire, oblong to elliptic or obovate, lower leaves opposite and upper are alternate. Atriplex pentandra is monoeceous, having separate male and female flowers on the same plant. The male (staminate) flowers have five stamens and five sepals and appear in terminal spikes. The female (pistillate) flowers appear in the leaf axils
