An occasional plant of bogs and swamps of the panhandle and south into the central peninsula to DeSoto County. Throughout the southeast, west to Texas and Oklahoma, then up the eastern coastal states as far as New Jersey.
The linear leaves are alternate. The yellow flowers have four petals and sepals and a single series of four stamens. The calyx lobes are 2-3 mm long (less than 1/8 in.), much shorter than the capsule, which is quadrangular.
Ludwigia linearis is a member of the Onagraceae - Evening Primrose family.
