These small non-venomous snakes can be found throughout Florida. The range extends throughout the eastern United States west into the Mississippi & Ohio River Valleys and north into Pennsylvania, New York & Qebec.
Ring-necked snakes are typically 20 to 35.5cm (8-14 in.) long, slender and black or slate gray with a contrasting belly that is bright yellow, orange or red and a thin yellowish ring around the neck.

Diadophis punctatus is a member of the Colubridae - Colubrids - nonvenomous snakes family.
