Usually found in moist flatwoods, but also slope forests, meadows and ruderal sites mostly in north Florida and the panhandle, extending into some central Florida counties. The range extends through the Gulf and Atlantic coastal states from Louisiana to Maryland.
Flowering usually follows some of the first rains of spring or summer, giving this one of its common names, although blooming can occur at any time of the year in Florida.
Zephyranthes atamasca is a member of the Amaryllidaceae - Amaryllis family.
