Not native to Florida
Pin-tailed whydahs are native to most of Africa south of the Sahara desert. Escaped or released captives are occasionally seen in Florida,Puerto Rico, southern California and in the San Francisco Bay area.
The whydahs are parasitic species, laying their eggs in other bird's nests, often finches. In their native range they prefer waxbill nests. Whydah's do not destroy the host bird's eggs, simply adding theirs to the clutch.
Vidua macroura is a member of the Viduidae - Indigobirds and Whydahs family.
