This large geometer moth can be found year-round in Florida and from late March to early October north into New England and Ontario, west to Illinois, Missouri and Texas.
The wingspan of tulip-tree beauties can be from 4.3-5.5cm (1-2/3 to 2-1/8 in.) with the outer margin of the hindwing scalloped. The wings are whitish with variable black zig-zag lines transversing the wings.
This is one of six Epimecis species found in the Americas north of Mexico.
Epimecis hortaria is a member of the Geometridae - Geometrid Moths family.
