Swamp tupelo is found in and near the water throughout the southeastern United States, west to Texas, north into Illinois and northeast to New Jersey. Ranges in Florida though the panhandle plus north and central peninsula.
Nyssa biflora is a member of the Nyssaceae - Sour Gum family.
