An occasional wildflower of sandhills, dry pinelands and scrub of the central Florida ridge. Scrub buckwheat has alternate leaves, often reduced upward, that distinguish it from the more common Eriogonum species. The basal leaves are woolly-white underneath and green on top. The flowers are cuplike, lack petals and are covered with whitish silky hairs.

Eriogonum longifolium is a member of the Polygonaceae - Buckwheat family.
