Small's jointweed is a low growing plant mostly found on white sands in scrub habitat. It is only found in four counties of Florida and almost exclusively on the Lake Wales Ridge. The zigzag branches have reddish-brown bark that cracks and partly separates in long, flat interlacing strips. Polygonella myriophylla has the distinctive ocrea typical of the jointweed family. The ocrea of this species do not have bristles. The needle-like fleshy leaves are 3-10 mm long. The small showy flowers are in clusters at the ends of erect branches. There are no petals but the flowers have 5 petal-like white sepals 3-4 mm long.
