Not native to Florida
A rare ornamental wildflower of disturbed sites, occurring in the wild in Okaloosa, Leon, Wakulla and Alachua Counties and also appearing in landscapes in other parts of Florida. Native to Europe and now found throughout much of the United States and southern Canada.
This larkspur is an annual that may reach a meter (39 in.) in height. The leaves are divided into linear lobes 1-2mm (~1/16") wide, giving them a feathery appearance. The flowers are zygomorohic, appearing in spikes. The corollas may be blue, pink or white.
The aboveground portions and seeds of this plant are poisonous as they contain various diterpenoid alkaloids, some of which are highly toxic.
Delphinium ajacis is a member of the Ranunculaceae - Buttercup family.
