Florida native
An occasional wildflower of flatwoods and dry hammocks from the central peninsula northward. Ranges mostly in the coastal plain of the southeastern coastal states from North Carolina into Texas, plus Arkansas.
A perennial with hairy stems up to 30cm (~1 ft.) tall. Has basal leaves that may be absent during the flowering period. The stem leaves are alternate with short petioles. The single flowers are terminal and 2.5cm (~1 in.) across with five yellow petals, five unequal sepals and numerous orangish stamens.
Crocanthemum carolinianum is a member of the Cistaceae - Rock-rose family.
