A common herbaceous herb of dry to moist open, disturbed sites throughout Florida north of Lake Okeechobee. Most prevalent in the southeast but can be found widely scattered in many states.
Plants are erect or ascending, glabrous and branched above the lower third. Leaves are variously shaped and usually have spreading lobes at the base. The inflorescence is terminal on the upper 2/3 of the stems. The small flowers appear flattish and are broadly ovate, varying amounts of white with green in the center and fringed with red.
Rumex hastatulus is dioecious (having separate male and female plants).
