An occasional plant of scrub and dune habitats of the Florida peninsula and west into Leon and Wakulla Counties. The range extends into Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.
American nailwort has a single stem at the base of the plant that often has a down-curving pubescence on one side and usually decumbent. Leaves are wider towards the tip and are 3-20mm (1/8 to ~3/4 in.) long and up to 4mm (<3/16 in.)wide. Up to 25 tiny white flowers appear in each somewhat spherical cyme. The flowers are up to 1.6mm (1/16 in.) long.
