A wildflower restricted to sandy depression marshes and pond margins along the central ridge of peninsular Florida from Putnam to Highlands County.
Narrowleaf yellow-eyed grass have leaves that are 1mm wide or less. The lanceolate shaped spikes are on scapes that are as wide of wider than the leaf blades and typically not much more than twice the height of the longest leaves. Spikes are 6-7mm (~1/4 in.) long and up to 4mm wide. Flowers have three yellow petals.
Xyris stenotera is very similar to X. elliotii - Elliot's yellow-eyed grass. Elliot's tends towards a slightly dryer habitat, has wider leaves that are 1-2.5mm in diameter and slightly larger spikes 7-11mm long and 4.5-6mm wide with acute tips.
