Mud Spring is located in the Welaka State Forest in southeast Putnam County.
This is a fourth magnitude spring, which is a designation for springs that have a flow of between 100 gallons per minute to 448.831 gpm (0.2228 cubic feet per second to 1 cfs).
The spring is the head of Mud Creek, which flows for about a mile before reaching Little Lake George on the St. Johns River. Mud Spring can be reached by walking an easy 3/4 mile trail through the Welaka State Forest from the trailhead along county road 309 south of the town of Welaka. There is a picnic pavilion and composting toilet at the spring and a short boardwalk out to where the spring run enlarges.
