Scrub Buckwheat

Longleaf Wild Buckwheat - Eriogonum longifolium var. gnaphalifolium
Endangered Florida species, U.S. Threatened species
Location - Bok Tower Gardens
Habitat - Scrub, sandhills and other dry pinelands
Range - Inland central Florida from Putnam and Marion Counties south into Highlands County.
Description - Scrub buckwheat has alternate leaves, often reduced upward, that distinguish it from the more common Eriogonum species. The basal leaves are woolly-white underneath and green on top. The flowers are cuplike, lack petals and are covered with whitish silky hairs.
