Bigflower Pawpaw - Asimina obovata
Location - Lyonia Preserve
Habitat - Primarily scrub
Range - North and central Florida peninsula.
Description - Living up to its common name bigflower pawpaw usually has the largest flowers of any of our pawpaws. The flowers appear at or near the ends of the branches, hanging from short, red-pubescent shoots. They have three green sepals and six white to greenish-white petals, the three innermost petals have maroon corrugated bases. Asimina obovata can grow to 3m (10 ft.) tall and has alternate leaves, usually widest closer to the tip.
