In fall the GROUNDSEL TREE goes to seed creating showy white-capped bushes along roadsides throughout much of Florida.
Ironically, this Florida native is an invasive plant in Australia.
Introduced to the island continent as an ornamental, it can displace the Melaleuca tree (Melaleuca quinquenervia - a problem invasive in Florida) in its native habitat.

This plant is an important dune protection and restoration species as it grows out onto the beach ahead of other plants typically in a straight line - prompting the common name railroad vine.
The leaves catch blowing sand to start natural dune building and provide an anchor for other plants.
This makes it a desirable plant in Florida and other coastal states, but in Arizona it is listed as a Prohibited noxious weed.
