A rare goldenaster of dunes and scrub in the western Florida panhandle. The range includes Alabama and South Carolina.
This is one of three subspecies of cottony goldenaster that occur in Florida. Cruise's goldenaster has leaf margins that are entire or obscurely serrate.

Chrysopsis gossypina is a member of the Asteraceae - Aster family.
