Florida native
A frequent small herbaceous plant of wet flatwoods and floodplains throughout most of Florida. The range includes most of the United States except for the northern Great Plains and Rockies. Also found in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Smooth branching stems grow to 35.5cm (14 in.) tall with alternate leaves. Leaves may be sessile or petiolate, obovate or spatulate to elliptic. In this species the stem leaves extend up into the inflorescence and the flowers are 2-3mm across with a minute bract in the middle of the pedicel. The corolla is white and five-lobed, the caylx having five triangular lobes. The five fertile stamens are fused to the corolla tube.
