A frequent sedge of mesic to wet flatwoods and bogs in much of Florida. The range includes wetlands of the southeastern coastal plain from Louisiana into North Carolina.
This perennial herb puts up brown spikelets on scapes to about 91cm (36 in.) tall. The perianth has 4 to 6 bristles. The leaves have ciliate margins, a prominent midrib and abruptly taper to an acute tip.
