An occasional plant of the Florida panhandle and down the center of the northern peninsula into Lake County plus Hernando County. The range extends through most of the United States and Canada east of the Rockies.
The leaves are alternate in two rows on the upper portion of a single arching stem 30-122cm (12-48 in.) long. The elliptic to ovate leaves with prominent parallel veins and are smooth underneath. Several tubular flowers hang from a single branching stalk from each leaf axil. Flowers have six minute lobes and start out green, maturing to white. The stigma is barely three-lobed and the six stamens are attached at the middle of the tube or above. The fruit is a round blue or black berry 1cm (0.4 in.) in diameter.
Polygonatum biflorum is a member of the Ruscaceae - Butcher's Broom family.
