A common oak of moist hammocks in most of Florida. The range extends throughout the southeast, west into Texas and Oklahoma, north into Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, West Virginia and northeast into New Jersey.

Quercus nigra is one of the red oaks.


Quercus nigra is a member of the Fagaceae - Beech family.
