The plants photographed here could be either Agave sisalana, sisal hemp, or A. fourcroydes, hehequen. These photographs were made in an abandoned agave plantation in Cuba that was overgrown with various vegetation. Both of these species are regularly cultivated for the fibers used to made cords, ropes and other products.
Agave sp. is a member of the Agavaceae - Century-plant family.
