This porterweed is a hybrid of Stachytarpheta jamaicensis(native) and S. cayennensis(not native). It is documented in the wild from Miami-Dade County, but has been distributed and planted throughout the peninsula, often mistaken for the native blue porterweed.
Stachytarpheta x intercedens appears very similar to S. jamaicensis, but is more erect, typically growing from 6-9dm (2 to 3 ft.) tall.


Stachytarpheta x intercedens is a member of the Verbenaceae - Verbena family.
